There are numerous solutions for sharing files. You can share them directly from your PC, upload data to a FTP or use a service that specializes in large file transfers. GigaTribe offers a new approach to sharing files over the Internet. It allows multiple users to connect just like on a social media. While connected, they can chat, comment on blog entries and of course, exchange large files.

Installing the program on your computer involves a series of familiar steps, like agreeing to the terms and conditions and clicking Next buttons. After installing the program, you need to create a GigaTribe account, which takes less than a minute.

Added friends, as well as your own account, are listed on the left side of the interface. If you select a friend, you will be able to view his profile, shared folders or blog entries and chat with him, on separate tabs, in the larger area of the window. You can access similar sections if you select your own account, but you can also share folders, post blog entries and so on.

To share a folder, you must select it on a standard open dialog. Before it is actually shared, you have to make a series of configurations. You can assign a thumbnail to the folder, decide if other users may view your files, download them or even upload something. You can also select a certain group if you want to allow them to access your shared folder. If you download something from another user, you don't need to worry if your Internet connection fails, because you can resume a download at any time. If a user quits, the program will search for the same data, from different users and it will continue the download.

Friend invitations can be sent to users who already have a GigaTribe account, to friends on your social network (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) or they can be sent by email. You can access the GigaTribe web site via its desktop interface, by clicking the "contact us" button. The web site is where you may create or join groups, known as tribes. When creating a tribe, you may categorize it by the type of information you want to share. For example, you may create a music tribe and decide to categorize files by artist, album, lyrics and other criteria.

Pros

You can use GigaTribe to share large quantities of data directly from your PC and download the same amount from your friends. You can share folders with specific users or groups and set up permissions. It is also possible to chat with friends and post blog entries.

Cons

You have to pay a monthly fee if you want to benefit from all the software's features. With its smart sharing and transferring features, GigaTribe will make you feel safe and secure while sharing your data with other friends.
